Gravel cycling

Whether you’re new to gravel riding or have years of experience under your belt, our club is built around one simple idea: cycling should be enjoyable, inclusive, and shared. We pride ourselves on creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where no one feels out of place – whether you’re riding your first unpaved trail or looking to explore new routes with like-minded people. There’s no pressure to keep up or push beyond your comfort zone; instead, we focus on riding together, supporting one another, and making every outing a positive experience.

Ride leaders

All sanctioned rides with Whitchurch Cycling Club are planned and lead by one of our ride leaders for your peace of mind and safety. All of our club leaders have achieved their British Cycling accredited Ride Leadership Awards and are qualified to take groups off-road on gravel or mountain bikes. For your added safety our Off Road Leaders have also achieved their relevant first aid outdoor training.

Helping you discover more

Our gravel rides are thoughtfully planned to showcase the very best of the Welsh Valleys (and occasionally further afield). Expect quiet, winding country lanes, lost bridleways, and fire road stretches that take you deep into rolling hills, rugged valleys, and wind swept, open landscapes. Each route is designed not just for the ride itself, but for the experience – taking in panoramic views, discovering hidden gems, and enjoying the simple pleasure of being outdoors on knobbly tyres.

We typically ride in small, sociable groups, with regular regrouping points to ensure everyone stays connected. There’s always time for a chat, a breather, and often a well-earned café stop along the way. We also try to plan reasonably spaced toilet stops as well. Our rides vary in distance and difficulty, so whether you’re looking for a gentle introduction to gravel cycling or a longer day out exploring further afield, you’ll find something that suits you.

More than anything, our club is about community. It’s about meeting new people, building confidence, and sharing a passion for adventure in a supportive and down-to-earth environment. So if you’re curious about gravel riding, keen to explore the Welsh Valleys, or are simply looking for a welcoming group to ride with, we’d love you to join us.
